Franklin D. Roosevelt

FDR was President during a very difficult time in American history: the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and the beginning of World War II. As President, he was dedicated to helping Americans overcome poverty and remain optimistic. To help keep the people hopeful, he delivered thirty evening radio speeches between 1933 to 1944, which became known as the Fireside Chats. During the speeches, he reassured Americans that the economy would recover and shared his plans for the country. He received thousands of letters thanking him for doing the radio broadcasts.
